I took an edge pattern off of a sweater in the fall 2009 Interweave Knits magazine. Doubled it and knit until it was about 20 inches. I did a "tear-a-way" cast on so I could expose the loops and kitchener stitch the ends together (a complete pain, but it looks OK) http://www.ravelry.com/projects/F-zilla/random-cowl
